Selectie Liederen
“Auf dem Strom”, D. 943
Fantasie voor viool en piano in C-groot, D. 934

Piano Trio nr. 2 in Es-groot, D. 929
We are delighted to open the fourth season of De Klassieke Duif with a programme dedicated entirely to the music of Schubert. Concerts devoted exclusively to Schubert’s music – known as Schubertiades – date back to the composer’s own lifetime, when his friends organised intimate house concerts so his music could be heard. Remarkably, only one public concert featuring exclusively Schubert’s works took place while he was alive. It included the Second Piano Trio and the chamber song Auf dem Strom—both of which are part of our own Schubertiade.
Everything in Schubert’s music revolves around melody and song, a thread that runs beautifully through this programme. Both the instrumental works, the Second Piano Trio and the ambitious Fantasy for Violin and Piano, draw inspiration from vocal music. The trio’s second movement is based on a Swedish folk song, while the Fantasy features an extensive set of variations on Schubert’s own song Sei mir gegrüßt.
We are also delighted to welcome mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj, who will perform a selection of her favourite Schubert lieder.
With this intimate programme in De Duif, featuring some of Schubert’s most beautiful music, we hope to transport you to a cosy Viennese salon in 1828.
